Rocks

On occasion I have the grand opportunity to babysit my grandson’s, last week was one of those opportunities.  watching their personalities develop over the years has been such a blessing.  They are currently eight and nine years old or rather eight and twenty years old.  The nine-year-old questions everything and seem to see his role as his little brother’s keeper and protector, which is a joy to watch.

It was a challenging task for someone of my age to take on two rambunctious little boys for two nights, but I decided to take the challenge.  The first day was uneventful since they came over rather late in the evening.  The second day started with a normal morning routine, wash up, eat, get games set up, etc., later in the afternoon we decided to walk down the street to our neighborhood park.  I sat in a swing while the boys played on the monkey bars, slide and rock-climbing wall.  Eventually they seemed to get bored with the playground stuff and decided to sit on the ground and play with the rocks that lined the entire playground.

I videotaped them as they piled rocks up and knocked them over as if their hands were weapons of some sort.  Then they would fill their shoes with rocks and pour them over each other’s heads as they giggled.  This rock playing continued for some time.  While they were playing with the rocks, I was paying close attention to their conversation.  The eight-year-old looked at his brother at one point during their play and said, “what if these rocks were alive?”  the Nine/twenty-year-old said matter of factly, “Nope they are dead, they can’t do nothing, “as soon as I heard that part of the conversation the following scripture flooded my mind.

Luke 19:40  “But He answered and said to them, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.”

When Jesus was making his Triumphal entry into Jerusalem and the disciples were rejoicing and praising God, some of the Pharisees told Jesus to rebuke his disciples and make them be quiet.  I thought about true Christian’s, and I say TRUE Christian’s intentionally, because we have a lot that have God’s name on their lips but not in their hearts, but I digress.  True Christian’s are not to be silent nor to be afraid to praise God in all His glory, true praise is evident, not only by the words that come out our mouths but also by the actions and deeds evident in our lives.

Are we allowing condition, tradition, and fear of what others think of us to suppress our praise?  Are we praising the Lord with all our heart, soul, and mind?  Are we giving God the honor He is due through our praise?  If we are benefactors of God’s grace and mercy, which we are, we should not be silenced by the objections or restriction of no man when giving God praise.  Let’s not give God a reason to summon the rocks to praise Him, because we are not dead, we are alive and we have reason and the ability to, give Him praise in the morning, praise Him at noonday, praise Him in the afternoon, praise him throughout the night…….Praise Him!!!!

God Bless

Melissa
