Trust

After the presidential election of 2024, I must admit that fear gripped me in a way that I had never felt it before.  The thought of sitting through another term of silly, disorganized and random tweets; undisciplined and ill guided yes men bowing down and kissing the feet of a wannabe worshipped tyrants' insults and berating's had me on edge.    The fear I felt was not just for me and my family, but it was for everyone across this country who knew the dreaded consequences of the outcome of this election.  My spirit was shaken, hope in a chaos free government is inevitably lost and the landscape of this country will assuredly be changed forever.  My husband did everything he could to console me when it was evident that Kamala wasn't going to win, he held me in his arms to comfort me and bought me flowers the following day (so sweet), but I couldn't be consoled.  All I could think about was the vitriol, the hate, the racism, the haphazard governing, the name...

Rocks

On occasion I have the grand opportunity to babysit my grandson’s, last week was one of those opportunities.   watching their personalities develop over the years has been such a blessing.   They are currently eight and nine years old or rather eight and twenty years old.   The nine-year-old questions everything and seem to see his role as his little brother’s keeper and protector, which is a joy to watch. It was a challenging task for someone of my age to take on two rambunctious little boys for two nights, but I decided to take the challenge.   The first day was uneventful since they came over rather late in the evening.   The second day started with a normal morning routine, wash up, eat, get games set up, etc., later in the afternoon we decided to walk down the street to our neighborhood park.   I sat in a swing while the boys played on the monkey bars, slide and rock-climbing wall.   Eventually they seemed to get bored with the playground...

Passport

Almost two decades ago I walked into the local post office and filled out the government required paperwork to purchase my first passport.  Four weeks later, I opened my mailbox to find a brown securely wrapped envelope containing my fresh printed passport; immediately, the plans of adventurous and exciting travel began dancing around in my head.  Now I could travel around the world if I so desired.  I could cross the majestic blue oceans and fly the friendly blue skies anywhere I wanted to go.   With my passport in tow, I was ready for my newfound freedom and adventures. I could step into any country, or on any Island and experience different cultures as well as, bring a bit of each culture back home with me by way of pictures and souvenirs.  Aaaah yes, how exciting,! what freedom! Using my passport, I booked my first trip with a group of friends on the Carnival Fascination cruise ship.  I was headed to the Bahama's.  First stop the beautif...

Temporary

Recently I had the opportunity to be by my sister's side as she underwent major surgery.  Prior to surgery, we were gathered in the pre-op room, me, her daughter and her sister-in-law.  We engaged in some comedic banter while we waited for the nurses and doctors to come in and prepare her for the procedure.  After the pic line was safely inserted, fluid, and antibiotic bags were dripping steadily through her veins, the attending nurse announced that they would be back shortly to take her to the operating room.  As the staff left the room, I gently caressed my sister's hand and asked everyone to pray with me.  After the surgery and a stint in the recovery room, we received a call from someone on the hospital staff giving us the room number where they were taking my sister.    As my sister was wheeled into the room, I could tell she was in a lot of pain.  Her distorted facial expressions and muffled mourns said it all.  Immediately the team of ...

Plan

This is the time of year that my husband and I make plans for the holidays.  I truly love the holidays; people I encounter in stores and restaurants seem more friendly and happier, which causes my spirit to leap with joy. November is just as exciting as December for us; In addition to Thanksgiving, we have birthdays a many to celebrate....oooooh the fellowship and fun just bursting to happen.   My husband is a master planner; initially, we try to decide whether we will have guest at our home, accept an invitation, or travel, we even mill around the food menus just in case we decide to stay home.   After a few days, we pretty much know what our plan A is for the holidays, however, we also try to leave room for plan B.  For instance, for thanksgiving we have laid out two options, if one fall through, we can ease right into the other.  Christmas is still a bit in the air, and New Years, well let's just say the plan is in the works.   As I r...

Cancer

It’s Cancer, isn’t it?   I asked the radiologist, staring intently into his eyes, as I sat on the edge of the cold, crinkled, paper covered exam room table.   He hesitantly responded, “I think it is, but let’s let the biopsy prove me wrong.”   Since the call back two days earlier for a follow-up ultrasound following a routine mammogram, I knew in my heart that it was cancer.   A week later, confirmation came by way of a phone call from my doctor’s office, breast cancer in its early stage.   The two weeks following confirmation were filled with blood draws, doctors’ appointments and counseling sessions, along with breaking the news to my husband, family members and church family, it was a whirlwind, no time to think about it in any depth.   My only thought was, well let’s get it out so I can move on with life.   Two weeks later and two weeks ago today, surgery is successfully over, and I am back to walking three miles a day five days a week. ...

Tribute

I am the eleventh child of twelve children born to my mother and father.  According to my birth certificate my mother was forty-two years old when she gave birth to me.  My oldest sibling was about twenty years older than me with children of her own when I was born; which means that I was an aunt the day I was born, how amazing is that, but I digress.  When I was young I was surrounded by a loving family and extended family.  We grew up with my Paternal grandparents in the home, in fact I am named after my paternal grandmother who was a twin.   I often think about my grandmother and mother, even more during Mother's Day celebration.  My grandmother was our caretaker, while my mother and father worked. She was a strong woman, mentally and physically, she was a stern disciplinarian, and she believed in children staying in their place, but as stern as she was, she was just as loving and caring.  My grandmother loved animals, especially cats, I rememb...
