Plan
This is the time of year that my husband and I make plans for the holidays. I truly love the holidays; people I encounter in stores and restaurants seem more friendly and happier, which causes my spirit to leap with joy. November is just as exciting as December for us; In addition to Thanksgiving, we have birthdays a many to celebrate....oooooh the fellowship and fun just bursting to happen.
My husband is a master planner; initially, we try to decide whether we will have guest at our home, accept an invitation, or travel, we even mill around the food menus just in case we decide to stay home. After a few days, we pretty much know what our plan A is for the holidays, however, we also try to leave room for plan B. For instance, for thanksgiving we have laid out two options, if one fall through, we can ease right into the other. Christmas is still a bit in the air, and New Years, well let's just say the plan is in the works.
As I reflect on all the plans we discussed for the holidays, the following scripture came to mind:
James 4:13-15
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”
It's an awesome thing to have a plan for practically everything we do; school, work, travel, family, etc., however I think that we should always be prepared for plan B, C, D, etc. Plan B to me is, "if plan A doesn't work, I am prepared to make changes to my plans because life doesn't always give us a smooth plan A. Many of us go through life banking on plan A, determined to make plan A work, but life happens, and if plan A doesn't unfold smoothly, we may become despondent and frustrated and oft times give up on our plans, or perhaps put our plans on hold.
As my husband and I continue to plan our holiday festivities; if it's God's will, plan A will work, but if not, we will adjust accordingly and continue to celebrate the spirit of the season. I pray that whatever your plans are this season or in life, that you will allow the spirit of God to lead and guide you to adjust to life's interruptions accordingly.
Amen
