Assurance

On December 26th, 2019 I awoke from a particularly bothersome dream in which I was driving frantically trying to find shelter from a tornado.  The sky was dark, the winds blew fiercely and rain was pouring down.  In the dream I was looking for someplace that wasn't locked (as I had already tried two buildings) so that I could shelter from the storm. Granted I had not seen the tornado at this point, but I sensed it was close by, I instinctively knew I had to find some place to take cover.  Finally I ended up at a house where a very pleasant gray haired older man was living, he was standing on his porch in blue overalls and a white shirt that matched his gray hair, he was talking on his cellphone to someone while looking up towards the sky.  I glanced at him while hurriedly gathering my things from the car, and immediately he beckoned me with his hand to come.  As I got out the car I looked up into the sky in the direction he was looking and saw the biggest tornado I had ever seen in my life, surprisingly the sky was not dark anymore.  I hurried into the old mans house as quickly as I could; as I rushed past him into the house, he looked at me with the most pleasant smile and said, "no need to be in such a hurry you are going to be alright."  I wondered to myself how can he be so sure that I am going to be alright, and why is he so calm when a huge tornado is about to destroy us.  As I hunkered down in his closet I immediately noticed that I no longer heard the wind blowing, nor did I hear the pounding of the rain on the roof of the house, so I concluded that the storm was over.

The Wind and the Sea Obey Him
Matthew 8:23–27, Mark 4:35–41, and Luke 8:22–25

When I awoke from my dream I immediately thought about the story in the above scriptures of Jesus being asleep on the boat while His disciples were frantically trying to survive a horrible storm.  They awoke Him in desperation shouting, "Lord save us, we are perishing."

In my dream I was frantic and desperate for safety, I needed someone to save me from the impending storm, similar to the Disciples on the boat. In life we will no doubt have physical, mental, circumstantial, and situational tornado's that come into our lives to try to destroy everything in us, around us, and to ultimately try to kill us.  It's in these times that we must remember that our safety, our comfort and our hope is with us all the time. "But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm."

There is no need to be frantic about a situation or circumstance in your life even if it seems like it has come to destroy you.  You are going to be alright in the midst of the storm because you carry with you the Holy Spirit.  You know how to pray and you have much faith in the all knowing, all powerful, living word of God!

The never changing Word of God is your Assurance that you can weather any storm with peace that surpasses all your understanding!

Much Love
Melissa
